Song:White Flag
From Craig
This is a recent find for me. Actually, Dido (the artist who sings this song) is a new find for me. Even though another hit song of hers was published in 1999 (6 years ago!), I hadn't heard anything of hers until just recently.
The first thing that really gets me about this song are the lyrics. Incredibly original! Similarly, Dido's voice is equally original. She doesn't sound like any other singer. She isn't "generic female pop singer #4".
The Song has a simple structure:
Intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus (Repeat, Last time almost a capella)
I find the chorus particularly haunting.
Well I will go down with this ship And I won't put my hands up and surrender There will be no white flag above my door I'm in love and always will be
You can just feel the torment of this poor woman who just can't let go.
This sentiment is also expressed by the bridge
And when we meet Which I'm sure we will All that was then Will be there still I'll let it pass And hold my tongue And you will think That I've moved on....
Listening to this song just makes you sad.
